The day trip took in the sights of the Waitakere dam, went through 10 tunnels, and ended with a barbecue.
“As the train went through the tunnels the driver shut out all lights in the train which left us in total darkness apart from the glow worms,” says activities coordinator Wikiriwhi Ratima.
“People were also amazed to see where the water comes from to supply nine percent of Auckland’s water supply.
“Many thanks and appreciation went out to lotteries for subsidising this family day out.”
The Men and Family Centre South Kaipara was established in early 2006 in response to community requests.
Run by the South Kaipara Men's Trust, the Centre offers services directed towards the needs of men, young men and their families.
Services include counselling, career development, men's groups, father and son summer activities and referral to specialist services.
