The Mt Albert Chinese Day Care Centre has put the contribution from the Lottery Grants Board’s Auckland Community Committee towards the costs of running activities for Chinese seniors in the area whose families are away from home during the day, either at work or school.
About 30 people regularly enjoy the programmes. The secretary of the centre, Bing Zhou Shi, says the funding was very welcome as it has helped pay the rent for the Mount Albert Presbyterian Church Hall.
Mr Bing Zhou Shi says they have been able to increase the number of English Classes and are hoping to get a home theatre. They also bought a ping pong table and have weekly ballroom dancing.
