The New Zealand Film Commission has proudly supported New Zealand film making since it was established in 1978. Film Commission funding has helped develop and promote a range of Kiwi blockbusters, such as Bad Taste, The Piano, Whalerider, The World's Fastest Indian and most recently, Second Hand Wedding.

New Zealand has continued to put itself on the world cinema map over the past year - and we're playing our part in putting it there, through contributions to Lottery Grants Board funding. The New Zealand Film Commission, a major beneficiary of lottery grants, has been allocated $8.8 million in funding for 2006/07.

Toa Fraser's feature film No. 2 screened in the New Talent Competition at the Taipei Film Festival, at the Urban World Festival in New York City, and at the Atlantic Film Festival where one of its stars, Ruby Dee, won the Best Actress Award. It also won the World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic at the Sundance Film Festival 2006.
The World's Fastest Indian broke box-office records in New Zealand and was the third-highest grossing film in New Zealand in 2005. It also features in the list of top ten New Zealand movies of all time, replacing Whale Rider as New Zealand's highest-grossing film.
Most recently, Second Hand Wedding became the sixth Kiwi film to pass the $1 million mark at the New Zealand box office.
