The online winner, who bought her ticket via mylotto.co.nz, and whom wishes to remain anonymous, says she found out by accident that she’d won.
“I was at my parents for my birthday, and my dad always checks his numbers by Teletext. So I showed him how he could check his numbers online in future by using the example of my own online Lotto ticket. While I was explaining it to him, I kept noticing my numbers were coming out, and then things got really exciting,” says the very happy winner.
“I can’t believe I won on my birthday, and it’s just a few weeks since I left my job, and now I can buy the Tinkerbell charm for my bracelet that I’ve had my eye on – you wouldn’t believe it!”
The other winners, who bought their ticket at Blenheim New World, claimed in the Wellington NZ Lotteries office today, and say they were equally excited when they found out they’d won.
“We usually watch the draw on Saturday nights, but the cricket was so exciting that we missed it and had to check our numbers later – the Lotto result was much better than the cricket one in the end though!” laughs the retired Blenheim local.
“We’ve had the same numbers since Lotto started, but we won on a Lucky Dip, but we’ll keep doing the same numbers, because you never know your luck!”
Powerball First Division was not struck on Saturday, so the jackpot for next weekend will be worth an estimated $5 million.
