The lucky couple, who claimed their prize in the Wellington NZ Lotteries office today, had been so busy that they only found out they’d won on Saturday, but got on to their close family immediately and organised a party that night.
“We thought bubbles and a barby was a good way to celebrate Kiwi style, and it meant no cooking for me – and the best thing was the teenagers cleaned everything up the next day because they weren’t hung-over!” says the winning woman.
The couple booked their flight for Monday to avoid the “carnage of the Sevens” in the Capital, and to make sure there’d be accommodation available.
“We don’t get down here often, and have never been to Te Papa, so we wanted a bit of time to relax and enjoy seeing the sights of Wellington,” say the very happy winners.
The winning ticket was sold at Clendon New World in Manukau, and is worth $4,240,060 – made up from a prize package including $2.5 million cash, an Audi R8, a Porsche Cayenne, an American Express card loaded with $250,000, $250,000 cash towards luxury travel, a Four Winns V258 boat and $750,000 cash towards a bach.
Clendon New World has had two First Division Lotto winners previously, but this is their first Big Wednesday major winner.
