The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought a Lotto ticket with his mum at Pak’ N Save in Sylvia Park and had $3 change so decided to have a go at the Crossword summer ticket.
“I scratched all the letters off and started to match them up in the crossword. When I saw that I had won $40,000 I told my mum but she didn’t believe me,” said the winner.
“Even when I went back to the Lotto counter to check the ticket my mum was still saying, ‘No, you can’t have won that much’ over and over again,” added the winner.
“Eventually I had to raise my voice and say, ‘Mum, I’m claiming my prize!” he laughed.
He reckons his mum was more in shock than he was about winning such a big prize.
When asked about what he’ll spend the winnings on, the winner explained how life changing the $40,000 would be.
“We’ve been paying our mortgage for over 20 years and this $40,000 will clear the mortgage in its entirety,” he said.
“It’s such a milestone in my life to pay off our mortgage and know that next month’s wages are ours instead of the banks!” he laughed.
Of course he couldn’t forget his mum and says he’s shouting her the next grocery shop!
There are five top prizes of $40,000 remaining on this ticket.
