The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, checked her numbers on the weekend after the Saturday Lotto draw.
“I was watching my numbers online getting circled on my ticket, after I got four numbers I yelled out to my husband in the kitchen that he had better come and watch as we were going to win something.
“He came in just in time to see our last two numbers get circled, it was such an amazing feeling to then realise we had won Lotto.
“I have now such a sore chest, which I am not sure is due to me coming down with a cold or whether it is due to my heart racing too much after our win!” she said.
The grandparents, who are committed Christians, say they count their win as a blessing from God, and plan to share their winnings with their church and to help out their family.
“We have also only been overseas once in our lives, so I am really looking forward to planning a trip without worrying about how we would pay for it.”
The woman has bought her lucky dip ticket via MyLotto since NZ Lotteries launched its online sales channel in 2008.
“We lead such busy lives that I was always forgetting to buy my ticket at the shops, so buying online has been much easier for me,” she said.
Her winning ticket was the only winner of Lotto’s First Division prize pool on the weekend, winning them a total prize of $1,032,011.
